Overload level of caregivers of older adults with mild cognitive impairment in the city of Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area in 2023

Introduction: the elderly with mild cognitive impairment requires a caregiver who assumes the responsibility of attending to their basic daily needs. The caregiver, when performing this demanding task, may present emotional, physical or social alterations, among others, leading to overload, fatigue or, in extreme conditions, collapse. Objective: to determine the level of overload and the associated factors suffered by family caregivers of elderly adults with mild cognitive impairment in 2023 in the city of Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area. Material and methods: type of quantitative observational, cross-sectional and analytical study. The Zarit scale and the sociodemographic characterization interview were used. Results: it is evident that 75% of the caregivers are women between 31-40 years old (59%), from socioeconomic stratum 3 (39%), with a secondary education level (33%), daughters of the subject of care (54%) and with an average of 8 hours invested or less (58%). Regarding the level of work overload, 81% did not present it. Conclusion: the majority of caregivers of older adults with mild cognitive impairment do not present work overload, and one of the factors associated with work overload in caregivers is the hours invested in this task
