Introduction: Conflicts between nursing professionals and family members of patients in the ICU are mediated by factors directly related to their respective needs. Interventions focused on this situation not only benefit the nursing staff and the family, but also the patient and the relational dynamics in general within the ICU context. Objective: To design an educational proposal based on Albert Bandura’s social learning theory, aimed at nursing professionals and family members, to improve interpersonal relationships. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in three stages:: Stage 1 - An integrative literature review of the literature regarding the needs of nursing and family members in the ICU; Stage 2 - An exploratory phase involving the triangulation of the review findings and the results of a previous descriptive quantitative study; Stage 3 - The design of an educational proposal using the four phases of Albert Bandura’s social learning theory of attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. Results: Twenty-five studies from the last 5 years were analyzed and triangulated with a previous descriptive quantitative study conducted with 31 nurses and 51 family members. This study allowed for the design of a specific educational proposal based on 5 themes representing nursing needs and 4 themes representing family needs. Conclusion: Two educational proposals were developed to address the relational needs described in the available scientific evidence, targeting the most susceptible aspects of conflict development in the ICU.
