Correlational analysis of the validity and reliability of the Cooper Test in the conventional field test, for the establishment of cardiovascular resistance

Abstract

Objective: To establish criteria of validity and reliability that allow the analysis of the cardiovascular resistance between the Cooper test (CRT) compared to: Course Navette (SRT-20m) and Rockport, based on the literature review. Methodology: Descriptive study of literary review that consulted 20 studies carried out in 8 countries between 2004 and 2015 published in primary databases such as: MedLine, Embase, Ebsco and Hinari. MeSH terms were used: Cooper run test, Rockport test, Coourse Navette test, and physical endurance. The results: Taking the Pearson coefficient as a validity parameter, the average value of the information collected was found: for the Cooper test (p=0.81); for the Course Navette test (p=0.77) and for the Rockport test (p=0.75). 100% of the studies consulted revealed that the three tests measure both cardiovascular resistance and indirect VO2 Max.; the reliability variables establish that the three tests are 100% reproducible, but the variation is found in the characteristics of the population. Conclusions: The Cooper test compared to other field tests, has a high coefficient of variation, and is reflected in a high validity index compared to other tests, but it must be clear that its application, should consider trained populations or high-performance athletes, as well as intrinsic and extrinsic environmental factors that do not lead to bias in the information collected.
