Abstract

Given the increase in obesity in school age, a large number of programs have been developed in schools, using diet, exercise and behavioral intervention, organized by communities, churches or special institutions and medical centers, which have been more efficient when they have been carried out in family groups. The greatest reductions in weight, BMI and fat, and the increase in functional capacity, as well as hormonal and metabolic parameters were achieved in summer camps or spas, with consistent and monitored nutrition, exercise and behavioral treatment (Parizkova, 2008) .
